Naruto chapter 499: A New Seal!

Summary:

The Kyuubi is still wrapped up by Kushina’s chains which come out of Naruto’s body. Through his mother he gained happiness and feels peace. Naruto manages to filter the Nine-Tails’ chakra so that the hatred is left behind. With many kagebushins he attacks the Kyuubi.


Right before the Rasaengans hit the Kyuubi Naruto entered the sage mode and forms giant Senpou Sasengans.

You know what comes next, right….?

And if this attack wouldn’t be enough, Naruto prepares a FRS and smashes it right onto the Kyuubi’s face. Cause of that massive blow the Kyuubi is pushed away but it seems that the FRS separates the body from its chakra.

So Naruto sucks in that huge amount of chakra and kinda “transforms” to a Super Sayajin-looking uber ninja… no kidding!

The Kyuubi draws the lasts bits of chakra in his body to form a giant black chakra ball. But before it can fire it off Naruto puts his hand on that spiral sign on his belly and turns it to close the seal. Some to these typical japanese temple gates are summoned keeping the Nin-Tails on the ground which are forming a cage arround it. The Kyuubi mistakes Naruto for the Sage of the Six paths.

The scene changes to Naruto’s mind’s mind (yeah… kinda confusing… I know). Kushina is now ready to tell Naruto the truth of what happened 16 years ago when the Kyuubi attacked. We get almost no information just that Kushina was the previous Jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi!

My 2 Cents:

First of all i wanna highlight some incredible reading skills. Last week’s Naruto post got a comment by Chris and he noticed that the Kyuubi always says “that guy” or something to Minato unlike Kushina’s case. The Nine-Tails always calls her by her name and this chapter we found out why. She’s the previous Jinchuuriki.

This is a real big twist. We all thought that Naruto’s parents died fighting the Kyuubi but actually it seems that they managed to seal the Kyuubi into Kushina first. Maybe Minato used a less effective seal for Kushina so the Kyuubi broke out, killed her and Minato sealed it into Naruto but this time with a four element seal.This would mean that the Nine-Tailed attacked Konoha twice: The first time when the Kyuubi was under control of Madara and the second time when Kushina’s seal disappeared.

If my theory is right, Kushina must got pregnant AFTER the first sealing. This would mean she was kinda a double Jinchuuriki (Kyuubi + Naruto in her hahahaha). Maybe that’s the reason Minato chose Naruto to be the next Jinchuuriki. His chakra could have gained some special characteristics (like being able to control the Kyuubi and wounds healing fast) as he was born by a Jinchuuriki…. anyway we’ll find it out in two weeks as Naruto is taking a short break.

So now let get to the Super Sayajin Naruto (let’s call it Super Jinchuuriki). I really hope that he isn’t glowing in a yellow/gold color in the anime (that would be toooo uninspired even for a series like Naruto). In the SJ mode Naruto really looks like the sage of the six paths. Just look at the hair-style and the chain-like something around the neck. Maybe it’s just a coincidence but I highly doubt it.

10/10 and I want some color pages next time!

Naruto chapter 498: Mom’s Red Hair

Summary:
So, last chapter Kushina appeared in front of Naruto while he was dragging out the Kyuubi’s chakra. At first Naruto doesn’t recognizes her but when she says “‘tte ba ne!” Naruto finally gets it that his mother is the person he’s facing (and not the Kyuubi’s true form ~baka Naruto…).

Naruto tells her that he always wanted to meet her. He’s so overwhelmed by his feelings that his dark side disappears and the transformation into the Kyuubi (outside of Naruto’s mind) stops.

As you can imagine Naruto has so many things he wants to ask Kushina but before Kushina helps him to get rid of the Nine-Tailes’ hatred by summoning chains which keep the Kyuubi tied up. With the Kyuubi out of action, Naruto shots out the most important question to him:

It all began when Kushina transferred from an other village. As she was the new kid in the ninja-class, she wanted to make an impression by telling that the wants to become the first female Hokage plus everyone laughed at her as with her long red hair she looked like a tomato.

Since he beat up everyone who made fun of her, she got a new nick name: The Bloody Habanero. Until a certain incident she even looked down on Minato. That event was caused by the Hidden Cloud who kidnapped Kushina ’cause of her special chakra. When they where marching her away, she pulled out some of her red hair to leave a trace. Minato was the only one who tracked her down. After Kushina was rescued he said that he noticed her beautiful red hair right away. From that day on she loved her hair and of course Minato too.

Well, Minato isn’t the only one she loves. She tells Naruto that she loves him too (in a parental way only hahaha) plus she wants to know what the product of “Konoha’s Yellow Flash” and “The bloody Habanero” is. Naruto replies, he’s the “The Leaf’s Orange Hokage”.

My 2 Cents:
What a nice chapter. Kushina’s appearance came a bit sudden but it was OK. At least we got to know that Kushina’s chakra is somehow special. I think it’s the ability to heal wounds very fast… or maybe it’s a still unknown Kekkei Genkai. An other thing is that the relationship between Kushina and Minato is the same as Naruto’s and Hinata’s. At first she was afraid of everything but through Naruto she got confidence in herself and started to love him. I’ll take that as an other goal win for the NaruHina fans.

So… 8/10 pts for this one. I think Naruto will gain full control over the Kyuubi at chapter 500. We are just 2 weeks away!

Story:
Chapter 497 jumps right into fighting. The Nine-Tailed molds a massive amount of chakra into a ball and fires it towards Naruto.

In the last second, Hachibi protects Naruto but with that last action Bee’s chakra drained so from now on, Naruto has to try to separate the fox’s mind from its chakra on his own.

Naruto focuses and enters the sage mode and with a uber Senjutsu rasengan he wants to smash the Kyuubi on to the ground but it stops the attack with some of its tails.

As Naruto’s rasengan failed, he changes his strategy and grabs one of the Kyuubi’s tails and with his sage-power. Now he manages to take it down and if that wasn’t enough, Naruto forms a FRS and hits the Kyuubi’s chest.

This is the chance Naruto waited for. He tries to draw out the Nine-Tails’ chakra but unfortunately he draws that huge amount of hatred with it. Once again Yami-Naruto makes an appearance but this time, he occupies Naruto’s night half and on top of that  in the deepest corner of the hatred he discovers a very important person: Uzumaki Kushina, his mother!

My 2 Cents:
Naruto is back again! This chapter was so awesome. It seems that the last chapters were made that boring on purpose, just to make this week’s release look better.

One thing I noticed is, that Naruto seems to be able to pull off a rasengan without a kagebushin and the FRS just with one. We all know Naruto isn’t into multitasking things so I think this is a huge step for him as every kagebushin (especially in the senin-mode) draws chakra out of him.

An other thing which came to my mind is Kisame. He’s still hiding inside of samehada and right now would be the best chance for him to get two bijous at one go. But personally, I like the idea better that he appears after Naruto got control over the Kyuubi and that Naruto teams up with Bee to fight against him. We never saw a team-jinchuuriki battle before and this would be a huge win for the series.

Overall this chapter was a great comeback and I’m really fired up what Kushina says to Naruto next chapter.

Title:
Recently I bought the first 3 volumes of Bakuman and I wanted to check out other works of Takeshi Obata, so I almost read everything he drew. I decided that Hello Baby should get a review because it was the most unique and thrilling one.

Content:
As usual, Obata-sama just provided his drawing skills to bring the story to live. This time Masanori Morita took the writing part and I have to say that they are a very good combination but not as good as Obata X Ohba (Bakuman, Death Note) though.

Honestly, I don’t really want to write something about the story. As it is a one-shot, the plot goes straight forward so I would ruin this one for you (even with a summary without spoilers). All I can say is that this manga is full of action, romance, thrilling moments and unexpected changes which are the ingredients to make an awesome story.

The only thing which confuses are the time-jumps. After my second ride through it, I understood the flow of the time-line but if this would be solved smoother, the rating would get a point more.

Art:
The art is typical for Obata-sama: Sharp and clear lines with some insane facial expressions. The time, you spend with watching at/ reading a page is perfect. There’s almost never too much or too less information (except with one or two panels). Obata-sama was able to create a weird flow. Some parts are very “fast” where you want to read the next pages really quick but there are scenes where you just read calmly and enjoy this awesome art (and this in a 60 pages one-shot!).

There are some scenes where you can almost make out the voice of the character who’s saying something. This happens really rarely especially when this comes naturally and you don’t even actively try to imitate a fitting voice in your head.

Other scenes without any speaking parts were thrilling too. Here’s nice example which catches the atmosphere of the scene really well.

My 2 Cents:
Hello Baby is definitely one of Obata-sama’s best works. I read this one-shot already 5 times. The story is so catchy but at the same time it’s confusing and to really understand every single meaning (especially the last part) I still have a way to go. Maybe Ohbata-sama and Morita-sama left so many ways of interpretation on purpose as they might want everyone to have a different view on the final pages. My interpretation is that all babies look like monkeys (I tried not to spoil anything but those who read the manga should understand what I mean).

Overall I’m very satisfied and I didn’t expect such a good development and characters. This manga proves that there are still some really good stories out there. I think, a 5 – 10 chapter series would fit better than just a 60-paged one-shot. Usually I’m against dragging the story out but this time I would go with it.

Nevertheless: 8/10!

PS: Please don’t read the scanlated version on Mangafox. It has crappy quality and many translation errors. The last few lines (= the most important ones) were completely off. Read THIS version instead!

Naruto chapter 496: Meeting the Nine-Tails once again

Summary:
Bee, Yamato and Naruto are entering the cave behind the waterfall. Inside are some ancient statues and buildings. They stop at the other end of it in front of an other entrance. Naruto turns the switch to open it by sticking his head into the mouth of a beast-like ornament at the wall.

The door opens and together they enter the next room which is completely white so you can’t make out the corners and such. in that room they’re gonna take off Naruto’s seal. If he can’t control the Kyuubi and completely revives, Bee will lock it inside this room as that is what this place was made for.

Naruto and Bee sit down and fist-bumping each other and the scene switches into Naruto’s mind where that huge cage of the Kyuubi is.

Naruto rips off that paper in front of the cage’s lock and uses a the key to release his own seal.

The lock is opened and instantly the Kyuubi Knocks Naruto away. With Bee’s help he tries now to pull the chakra out of the nine-tails’ body plus he has to latch his own chakra onto the Kyuubi’s. While Naruto pulls, the nine-Tails tries to suck Naruto’s chakra into him…. who will win? We’ll see it in the next chapters!

My 2 Cents:
The strange thing I noticed during the last 3 or 4 chapters, there was always one comedy scene. Even tis time. I don’t know whose idea it was (Kishimoto’s or his editor’s) but it’s not going to work any longer. These scenes have to come naturally but it feels like if they were placed in after the storyboard for this chapter was decided as they had too less pages.

But overall this weeks release was quite interesing and definately better than the releases in the last few weeks. I really hope that the qualiy is back on top next chapter.

Due to this nice “unsealing the Kyuubi part”, this chapter deserves an 8/10.

Mysterious Girlfriend X chapter 45: Mysterious Choice

Summary:
At last chapter’s end Momoka disguised as Urabe was at an electronic store borrowing a CD-player. Now, she puts in a CD and starts dancing in front of the guys who were watching Urabe (disguised as Momoka) on TV.

Tsubaki crosses the streets and sees a mob gathering around that electronic shop so he wants to take a look too. For his surprise, Urabe is dancing around (of course he still doesn’t know about that little role switch).

The people who are watching her begin to notice that this is the real Momoka. Tsubaki interrupts her performance, asking her what the hell she’s doing. Some random guy from the audience warns him to let go off Momoka but Tsubaki gets pissed and kicks him on the chest.

Momoka and Tsubaki run off together. After a while they come to a stop and Tsubaki wants to know why she was imitating Momoka in front of that store. His conclusion is that she wants to change her personality and become more like Momoka and because of that her drool isn’t sweet anymore. If he would have to decide whether he has Urabe or Momoka as a girlfriend he’d definitely choose Urabe. Now, Momoka wants to know – just hypothetically of course – what he’d do if Urabe and Momoka switched places.

Tsubaki answers that he would still end up with Urabe as they have a bond through tasting drool. Momoka sticks her finger in her moth and lets Tsubaki taste her drool but it’s still not as sweet as it used to be.

Momoka pulls out two tickets for a Momoka live concert and asks Tsubaki to go there with her. She says that she and Momoka are singing together!

My 2 Cents:
And this arc goes on and on and on and on… Strangers waiting, up and down the boulevard. Their shadows searching in the night. Streetlights…people, living just to find emotion. Hiding, somewhere in the night. Don’t stop believin’ Hold on to the feelin’ Streetlightpeople….

Oh yeah. I’m starting to go nuts with this story arc. It needs at least two more chapters: The climax and the resolve one. I really hope the climax makes up that slow-paced storytelling; if not, MGX has to give up the second place in my top 5 mangas. I’m not sure if I put it on the 3^rd or 4^th place but a hot candidate to completely take it over is Sekitou Erejii.

Let’s jump over to this month’s release:

I don’t know why, but this chapter is slightly better than the others in this story arc. Maybe it’s because Tsubaki is getting more and more aggressive. This is the second time he beat someone to protect Momoka disguised as Urabe. If he’d protect the real Urabe, I guess she’d produce a ton of saliva like in the oneshot of MGX.

Anyway… Tsubaki gets not only more aggressive, he gets more stupid, too. I mean, Momoka almost confessed that she switched roles with Urabe and why the heck Tsubaki doesn’t notice that Momoka has a different voice than Urabe -.-“ He’s propably deaf and only reads everyone’s lips.

7/10.

PS: MGX is on hiatus this month! It will be back in June…

Summary:
After that sudden attack of that giant squid Naruto, Bee and the others are going back to the waterfall of the truth. Once again, Naruto tries to defeat his evil side. Yami Naruto appears but the “normal” Naruto changes his strategy. Rather than beating his dark side up, he uses his yet undefeated “convincing no jutsu”.  Naruto focuses cause he wants to show something to Yami Naruto in his mind.

Remember back then, when a random-nin asked Naruto for an autograph at Ichiraku’s? Well, I do and with his mind he created that autograph which he should have given that guy.

Yami Naruto is now trying his “evil convincing no jutsu” by telling him that everyone in Konoha deceived them for years and that they can’t trust them. But Naurto says that there’s someone else than the villagers who he has to believe in. He has to have faith in himself.

As that’s quite hard to understand for Yami-Naruto, he starts attacking Naruto but he’s stopped by an ultra hardcore hug. The only reason that Naruto grew that strong is his dark side so he thanks him for everything and it’ gonna be alright.

Yami Naruto disappears and Naruto gains consciousness again. Starting now, Bee becomes his sensei. Together they enter the cave behind the waterfall. That’s the place where Naruto will be fighting against the Kyuubi in the next chapter!

My 2 Cents:
Mediocore. It seems like Kishi had to make the best out of last chapter’s continuation. The only slightly good parts where Bee calls Yamato a motherfucker

and that cave behind the waterfall. I’m really excited about the next chapter. Finally, Naruto will face this life-time burden, the Kyuubi.

The HUGE weak spot of this week’s release is Bee’s sudden change. At first he ignores Naruto and refuse to become his teacher but now, they’re like buddies.

Overall: 6/10

Summary:
First of all, that Kumogakure guy I wrote about in the last chapters finally gets a name in my chapter review! It’s Motoi and in this chapter he tells about KilerBee’s and his past.

His story starts at that time the Hachibi was captured but not yet sealed into a host. The third Raikage captured the Hachibi in a traditional sealing pot. Motoi’s father was killed by the Hachibi as he was helping the Raikage. At that time, KillerBee and Motoi were still kids and both great friends. But then it was announced that Bee should be the Jinchuriki. Motoi created more and more hatred as he convinced himself to avenge his dead father. By the time, his object of revenge changed rom the Hachibi to Bee. So Motoi tried to assassinate him, but his attempt failed.

After that, Motoi couldn’t bring himself to talk to him again.

The scene switches to the present again and Motoi tells them that he make amends. Naruto is pissed off as the notices that Motoi is just using him. So he sets off to the coast of his island to be alone a bit.

Naruto thinks about the past years compared to now. First, everybody hated him but now after defeating pain he is Konoh’s hero. That kinda happened with Gaara, too. First he’s hated, then loves as the Kazekage and the people around Bee changed too. What Naruto bugs is that he doesn’t know if his friends are trusting him for real.

Suddenly this real big squid appears again which attacked Naruto and the others when they were about to arrive at the island. And again it gets crushed by KillerBee.

After that Motoi goes to KillerBee and asks him if he knew that it was him who tried to kill him that time but Bee just fist-bums him.

My 2 Cents:
Honestly, this was the most useless and boring chapter in the last 6-10 weeks. It really seems like Kishimoto is realizing that Naruto will end sooner or later so he stretches the story. Or maybe Kishi took off a week (yeah, even mangakas need holidays) and let his assistants or editor write the story.

The only “good” part was the scene where Naruto mistakes that squid for the Hachibi.

Hopefully, Naruto finished his training soon but for now it’s kinda boring.

PS: That sealing scene of the third Raikage reminds me at the sealing of Piccolo from Dragonball. The difference is that Roshi’s rice cooker had more style.

GantZ chapter 318: The Intense Search for Pleasure

Summary:
So… The GantZers took a hostage and got back to where they started. That former big arm guy shouts that they are all dismissed.

He orders that everyone should be teleported away to a random ace but Kei wants to be brought back where he came from as he still want’s to save Tae. But he has no chance. He gets teleported to the district “Roppongi”.

Katou landed in “Makuhari” and the second Kei is with Reiko (I don’t know which district they were teleported in).

The scene switches back to the fist Kei searching intensely for Tae. He arrives at the hotel he was teleported form but all students he helped are dead. At the same time Tae is looking for Kei. She stops at her house but no one’s there. After walking for a while she discovers a pile of copses. Her mother is still alive but she gets shot/stabbed (I really can’t make that out) by an insect like alien.

After that, she is taken hostage with some other people in a cage which flies away. At that moment Kei arrives and with a superhuman jump he manages to reach Tae in that cage but sadly he’s not high enough to grab the cage’s grating.

My 2 Cents:
A pretty normal chapter I guess… I wraps-up that little journey to the alien’s base plus getting things ready for the next part. I’m excited about Kei trying to chase Tae and get her back.

The bad part of the chapter were the scenes where Tae was captured. I couldn’t really make out how the alien really looked like and how she got into that cage. So 7/10

For everyone who read 20^th Century Boys it’s like a deed reading this manga to find out why the hell Endou Kenji (main char of 20^thCB) calls himself Yabuki Joe who is the main character of Ashita no JOE. Well, I took this deed seriously and started reading last week although sports manga are one of my most hated ones (especially baseball related stuff). The reason I’m writing a fist look instead of a full review is that there are just 55 translated chapters out there.

Surprisingly, this boxing manga is pretty damn awesome. Even the beginning is nice ‘cause the fist fight you see is between homeless people. One of them is the 15-year-old Joe. At that time Joe is a delinquent who wanders around in the poorest districts of Tokyo. He even messes with the police. The other homeless is Danpei Tange who is a retired pro-boxer who recognizes Joe’s boxing potential. He urges him to become his student but Joe declines. Joe continues cheating off people’s money and gets arrested by the police. In prison he meets his first rival Rikiichi who is ranked on the 6^th place on a boxing list (sadly I forgot his weight class and the name of that list -.-). After a lost fight, he is now  eager to beat him. Fortunately Danpei Tange sends him postcards with boxing lessons so that he can train even when he’s arrested. As everybody’s interested in who would win, they the wardens set up a real boxing fight…

Overall:
It seems that my sports manga allergy only applies to baseball series. It seems that I’m immune when it comes to boxing and American football (currently reading Eyeshield 21). Maybe I’ll try out an other sport like soccer or basket ball to prove that.

Sadly, there are just 55 translated chapters available but I found very high quality raws for the whole series (Can you guess where?). So if anybody wants them, just leave a comment and I’ll send a hint where you can find them, too! I’d be very glad if a scanlation group would pick it up as it’s a huge win for the manga community to be able to experience the whole manga.

Okay… that’s it for the first look of Ashita no Joe. It really deserves an 8/10. I’m expecting more character development in the upcoming chapters.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot to mention that in 2011 a live action movie of Ashita no Joe will be released! I’m looking forward to see it. If there are any news or trailers available, expect an article about it.
